Katell Electric Fireplace Suites

Katell specialises in designing and manufacturing complete electric fireplaces in the UK. Rather than supplying only the electric fire, many Katell products combine the fire, surround, hearth and decorative finishes into one coordinated suite.

This makes Katell particularly useful where you want a finished fireplace feature without installing a conventional chimney, gas supply or wood-burning flue system.

Bonfire is an official UK Katell distributor, supplying the Italia collection with professional installation available where required.

Choose Katell by Installation Type

The easiest way to choose a Katell fireplace is to start with how you want it to sit in the room.

Flat-to-Wall Electric Fireplaces

One of Katell’s biggest practical advantages is that many Italia fireplaces can be installed against a flat wall.

There is normally no need for a conventional chimney or flue, which can substantially reduce the building work required compared with a gas or solid-fuel fireplace.

This makes Katell particularly suitable for newer homes, bedrooms, apartments, extensions and rooms where the original fireplace has been removed.

Models such as the Genoa, Loreto and Savona provide the appearance of a complete fireplace while keeping installation relatively straightforward.

Katell Cento – Slim or Deep?

The Cento family is designed around low-level contemporary proportions, helping keep a television at a comfortable viewing height above the fireplace.

The key decision is whether to choose Slimline or Deep.

A Slimline Cento reduces the amount the fireplace projects into the room, making it particularly useful where floor space is limited.

The Deep format creates more room around the electric-fire engine, allowing a larger log presentation and greater fuel-bed depth. Current deep-format models also incorporate additional illumination such as Katell’s Ambilight-style flickering lighting.

Both approaches provide the benefit of a complete suite without requiring a traditional chimney breast.

Katell Visto – Wall Mounted or Floor Standing

The Visto offers another useful installation choice because it can be specified as either a wall-mounted or floor-standing fireplace.

Floor-standing versions use a mirrored plinth to create the visual effect of a floating fireplace, while wall mounting produces an even cleaner contemporary appearance.

Visto is available in different widths and in Slimline or Deep formats, allowing the fireplace to be chosen around both the wall size and the amount of projection acceptable within the room.

Katell Aprila Media Wall Base

The Aprila is specifically useful where a television and electric fire are being designed together.

Rather than supplying a complete tall media wall, Aprila forms the lower fireplace base and can be installed floor-standing or wall mounted. A bespoke false chimney breast and television can then be built above it.

Katell also offers bespoke Aprila sizes on request, making it more adaptable where the finished media wall needs to suit a particular television, room width or furniture layout.

Eco Electric Flame Technology

Many Italia Eco fireplaces use LED flame technology combined with a realistic log-style fuel bed and coloured ambient lighting.

Depending on the model, current features can include:

  • Up to 2kW supplementary heat
  • Flame effect without heat
  • Smart remote control
  • Seven-day programmable timer
  • Thermostatic temperature control
  • Open-window detection
  • Multiple flame colours
  • Adjustable fuel-bed lighting
  • Optional smartphone app control

The heater should be viewed as supplementary room heating rather than a replacement for the property’s main heating system.

Katell Optimyst Fireplaces

Katell also offers fireplaces using Optimyst technology, including models such as Verona, Napoli and Vittoria.

Optimyst works differently from a conventional LED electric fire. An ultra-fine water mist rises through the fuel bed and is illuminated to create the appearance of moving flames and smoke.

The result has much greater three-dimensional depth than a flat projected flame effect.

Because the flame effect is created using water vapour and lighting, there is no real combustion flame and no conventional chimney is required.

LCD & Real Flame Technology

Selected newer Katell products move in another direction again, using LCD-based flame technology.

The Cento Portrait, for example, uses a Luminosa portrait electric-fire engine, while the traditional-style Malito uses an Opulus 16-inch inset engine.

These systems use digital imagery to create detailed flame, ember and smoke effects, giving customers another choice beyond conventional LED or Optimyst technology.

Traditional Katell Fireplaces

Not every Katell fireplace is designed to look like a media wall.

The Genoa uses a more traditional profiled surround, while the Malito combines classical fireplace proportions with a modern 16-inch LCD electric fire.

This makes Katell useful in period-style interiors where installing an ultrawide landscape fire would feel out of place but the convenience of electric is still preferred.

Choosing the Correct Fireplace Width

The fireplace should be proportioned to the wall, television and surrounding furniture rather than simply choosing the largest available model.

Low-level landscape designs work particularly well beneath televisions, while narrower traditional suites can suit chimney breasts and smaller rooms.

Also consider the fireplace depth. A deeper model can provide a more substantial fuel-bed presentation, while Slimline versions preserve more usable floor space.

Katell Installation by Bonfire

Bonfire can supply your Katell fireplace for installation by your own contractor or provide a complete electric fireplace and media wall service.

This can include room measurement, fire and suite selection, false chimney-breast construction, television positioning, electrical planning, wall mounting and final finishing.

Katell Fireplaces FAQs

Where are Katell fireplaces made?

Katell designs and manufactures its fireplace products in the UK.

Do Katell electric fireplaces need a chimney?

No. The electric Italia range does not require a conventional chimney or flue, and many models are specifically designed for flat-wall installation.

What is the difference between Slimline and Deep Katell fireplaces?

Slimline models reduce how far the fireplace projects into the room. Deep versions provide greater fuel-bed depth and can accommodate larger log presentations and enhanced lighting.

What is Optimyst?

Optimyst uses illuminated fine water vapour to create a three-dimensional flame-and-smoke effect without real combustion.

Can a Katell fireplace go below a television?

Yes. Several low-level Katell designs, including Cento, Visto and Aprila, are specifically suited to fireplace and television installations. The final dimensions and electrical arrangement should still be planned before fitting.

Can Katell fires be used without heat?

Yes. Current electric models allow the flame effect to operate independently from the heater, so the fireplace can be enjoyed throughout the year.

Can Bonfire install my Katell fireplace or media wall?

Yes. Bonfire can provide electric-fire specification, media-wall and false chimney-breast construction, television positioning and professional installation for suitable projects.
