Dovre Cast-Iron Wood Burning Stoves

Dovre has more than 60 years of stove-making experience and is particularly known for premium cast-iron wood-burning and multi-fuel appliances inspired by Scandinavian heating traditions.

The current UK collection covers a much wider output range than many stove brands, from compact models around 5kW through to substantial 11kW appliances designed for genuinely large rooms.

Dovre products are distributed in the UK through the Stovax Heating Group and are available through experienced independent retailers such as Bonfire, where we can help with stove sizing, fireplace design, chimney requirements and professional installation.

Traditional, Retro or Contemporary?

Dovre does not follow one single design style. The range can be divided into three broad looks:

This makes Dovre useful where customers want the durability and heat characteristics of cast iron without being restricted to a traditional cottage-style stove.

Dovre 250 Multi-Fuel Stove

The Dovre 250 is one of the more traditional appliances in the collection and provides multi-fuel capability rather than being dedicated exclusively to wood.

It is a strong option where customers want a compact cast-iron stove with classic proportions and the flexibility to burn suitable authorised smokeless fuels as well as seasoned logs, subject to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The 250 is also Ecodesign compliant and available for suitable Smoke Control Area installations when correctly specified.

Dovre Sense 103 & Sense 203

The Sense range takes Dovre in a much more contemporary direction.

The Sense 103 has a nominal output of approximately 4.9kW, making it particularly relevant to many UK living rooms. Side glass increases the flame view beyond a conventional front-only stove, while the slim body and distinctive legs give it a lighter appearance.

The model also offers a choice of finishes and can be specified with a Smoke Control kit where required.

The Sense 203 develops the same design into a different format while retaining Dovre’s cast-iron construction and large glass areas.

Dovre Bold 300 & Bold 400

The Bold range is intended for rooms that genuinely require more heat.

The Bold 300 and Bold 400 have a nominal output of approximately 7kW and use a tall curved firebox to create a strong vertical flame view.

The Bold 300 stands on four distinctive legs, while the Bold 400 uses an integrated storage base. This changes the visual proportions without substantially changing the heating requirement.

Current Bold models use Dovre Cleanburn and Airwash technology and reach efficiency levels around 80%.

Dovre Vintage 35 & Vintage 50

The Vintage range combines retro styling with modern combustion technology.

Rounded corners, a broad viewing window and enamel finish options make these stoves particularly distinctive. Depending on the model, finishes include matt black and lighter enamel colours that can work well where a conventional black stove would feel too heavy within the room.

The Vintage 50 is the larger model and produces approximately 9kW, making it suitable for significantly larger spaces than a typical 5kW stove.

Its wide landscape window also creates a very different flame presentation from the taller Bold and Sense models.

Dovre 640WD & 760WD

For traditional interiors and high heat requirements, the 640WD and 760WD provide substantial cast-iron wood burners.

A particularly useful feature is the side-loading door, which allows longer logs to be loaded without opening the main glazed door.

The 760WD is the largest current Bonfire Dovre stove, with a nominal output of approximately 11kW and capacity for logs up to around 60cm long.

This is a serious heating appliance intended for large spaces. It would generally be excessive for a typical modern living room and should only be selected where the calculated heat requirement supports that output.

Dovre Rock & Astroline

The Rock 350 and Rock 500 provide another contemporary interpretation of cast-iron stove design, with large flame windows and cleaner external detailing.

The Astroline 4 is particularly useful where customers want fuel flexibility, as the current model can operate as a wood-burning or multi-fuel stove.

These ranges sit between Dovre’s strongly traditional appliances and the more sculptural Bold or Vintage collections.

Why Cast Iron?

Cast iron is central to Dovre’s identity. It tolerates repeated heating and cooling well, provides substantial stove construction and allows detailed components to be manufactured individually.

Dovre currently provides a five-year guarantee on the cast sections of its stoves and fireplaces, subject to the manufacturer’s warranty conditions.

Cleanburn, Airwash & External Air

Current Dovre wood-burning and multi-fuel stoves use Cleanburn and Airwash technology.

Cleanburn introduces additional combustion air to help burn gases more completely, while Airwash directs air across the inside of the glass to help maintain a clearer flame view.

Most current Dovre wood-burning models also provide an external-air connection, allowing combustion air to be drawn directly from outside where the property and installation require it.

Ecodesign & Smoke Control Areas

All current Dovre solid-fuel stoves meet modern Ecodesign requirements and are rated in the A or A+ energy classes.

Smoke Control Area suitability should still be checked against the exact model. Some appliances are suitable directly, while others such as the Sense 103 require the appropriate Smoke Control kit.

Choosing the Correct Dovre Output

Dovre’s broad output range makes sizing particularly important.

A Sense 103 at around 4.9kW and a 760WD at 11kW are designed for completely different properties. Room volume, insulation, glazing, ceiling height and adjoining spaces should therefore determine the output rather than simply choosing the stove that visually fills the fireplace.
