Uber Logs Wood Briquettes
Uber Logs are highly compressed wood briquettes manufactured in the UK from clean recycled wood material.
They provide a convenient alternative to conventional split logs for compatible wood-burning stoves, multi-fuel appliances, open fires and outdoor wood-burning products.
Bonfire currently offers Uber Logs in approximately 10.5kg packs containing 12 briquettes, making them easy to collect, carry and store without requiring a large outdoor log store.
Why Choose Wood Briquettes?
The main difference between a briquette and a conventional log is consistency.
Natural firewood varies in species, dimensions, density and moisture content. Uber Logs are compressed into uniform blocks with a very low moisture content, producing a predictable and energy-dense fuel.
Current specifications include:
- Less than 8% moisture content
- Approximately 4.9kWh/kg calorific value
- Less than 1% maximum ash content
- Made from clean recycled wood material
- Manufactured in the UK
- Ready to Burn approved
- Approximately 12 briquettes per pack
- Approximately 10.5kg pack weight
Uber Logs vs Conventional Firewood
| Feature | Uber Logs Briquettes | Conventional Logs |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Uniform compressed blocks | Naturally variable |
| Moisture | Below 8% | Varies by seasoning |
| Storage | Compact and stackable | Requires more space |
| Handling | Clean and consistent | Bark and loose debris possible |
| Appearance | Manufactured fuel block | Natural split timber |
If the appearance and smell of traditional logs are important, conventional firewood may still be preferred. If compact storage, low moisture and consistency are priorities, briquettes can be extremely convenient.
Low Moisture for Efficient Burning
Moisture has a major effect on wood-fuel performance.
When wet wood is burned, part of the energy from the fire is spent evaporating water rather than heating the appliance and room.
Uber Logs contain less than 8% moisture, considerably below the 20% maximum associated with Ready to Burn domestic wood fuel.
Their dry, dense construction allows them to ignite readily and produce strong heat once the fire is established.
How Much Heat Do Uber Logs Produce?
The current declared calorific value is approximately 4.9kWh per kilogram.
This figure is useful when comparing fuels because it describes the potential energy content by weight rather than relying on the visual size of the log.
Actual usable room heat will still depend on the efficiency of the stove or fire in which the briquettes are burned.
Suitable Appliances
Uber Logs can be used in a range of compatible wood-burning appliances, including:
- Wood-burning stoves
- Suitable multi-fuel stoves
- Open fires
- Wood-burning boilers
- Wood-fired ovens
- Chimineas
- Outdoor fire pits
Always check the instructions for your specific appliance. The fact that a fuel is manufactured from wood does not override any fuel restrictions stated by the stove or fire manufacturer.
How to Use Wood Briquettes
Because briquettes are very dry and dense, they can produce considerable heat.
Start with a sensible quantity rather than completely filling the firebox. Once established, additional briquettes can be added according to the appliance instructions and required heat output.
Briquettes can also expand or break down as they burn, so avoid overloading the firebox or placing fuel directly against the glass.
Easy to Store
One of the strongest practical benefits of compressed briquettes is storage efficiency.
Each block is approximately 150mm long × 90–100mm wide × 62mm high, allowing packs to stack more neatly than irregular firewood.
However, the briquettes must remain completely dry. Compressed wood readily absorbs moisture and can swell or break apart if exposed to damp conditions.
Bonfire offers recyclable paper packaging for dry indoor storage and moisture-resistant wrapped packs where longer-term protection is more important.
Recycled Wood Fuel
Uber Logs are produced from clean recycled wood material that is compressed into dense fuel blocks.
This provides a useful outlet for suitable wood residues that can otherwise go unused while avoiding the need for adhesives to create the briquette structure.
Only clean, approved wood fuel should be burned. Never substitute painted, treated, laminated or contaminated waste timber in a stove or fireplace.
Low Ash Does Not Mean No Maintenance
Uber Logs produce less than approximately 1% ash by weight under their stated specification.
Low-moisture fuel can also support cleaner combustion than wet firewood, but no wood fuel eliminates the need for correct stove operation, chimney sweeping and routine maintenance.
Flues and chimneys should continue to be inspected and swept at suitable intervals.
Collect Uber Logs from Bonfire
Uber Logs are available from our Reading, Berkshire showroom, where customers can collect individual packs without paying the relatively high carriage costs associated with shipping dense solid fuel.
Delivery is also available where practical and is calculated at checkout.
Uber Logs FAQs
What are Uber Logs made from?
Uber Logs are compressed fuel briquettes made in the UK from clean recycled wood material.
How dry are Uber Logs?
The current product specification states a maximum moisture content below 8%.
How many briquettes are in a pack?
Each current Bonfire pack contains approximately 12 briquettes and weighs around 10.5kg.
Can I burn Uber Logs in a wood-burning stove?
They are suitable for many wood-burning stoves, but you should always check the appliance manufacturer’s permitted-fuel instructions before use.
Are Uber Logs Ready to Burn approved?
Yes. The current Uber Logs briquettes supplied by Bonfire are listed as Ready to Burn approved.
Do wood briquettes produce much ash?
The declared maximum ash content for Uber Logs is below 1%, although the actual residue will depend on combustion conditions.
Can wood briquettes get wet?
They should be kept completely dry. Compressed briquettes absorb moisture readily and may expand or break apart if stored in damp conditions.
