SCAN Wood Burning Stoves & Fireplaces

SCAN is a Danish stove manufacturer known for contemporary wood-burning appliances with clean proportions, large areas of glass and a wide choice of installation styles.

The collection goes well beyond a standard freestanding log burner. SCAN offers cylindrical stoves, wall-mounted models, pedestal designs, taller heat-storage versions and substantial inset fireplaces for architectural projects.

Bonfire is an approved SCAN retailer in the UK, offering supply-only or complete survey, chimney design and professional installation.

Choose a SCAN by Shape & Installation Style

One of SCAN’s strengths is the number of ways the same Scandinavian design language can be incorporated into a room.

SCAN 67 & Zensoric Automatic Air Control

The SCAN 67 introduces one of the most interesting technologies within the current range: Zensoric electronic air control.

Instead of relying entirely on manual adjustment, Zensoric manages the combustion air supplied to the fire. The system can be set according to the type of wood being burned, with settings for softer woods, mixed hardwoods and denser hardwoods.

The current SCAN 67 has a nominal output of approximately 5kW and is available in different heights, making it particularly relevant to modern UK homes where controlled output is just as important as appearance.

SCAN 68 – One Stove, Different Bases

The SCAN 68 demonstrates how changing the base can substantially alter the appearance of a stove.

Current versions include the 68-7 wall-mounted, 68-9 pedestal and 68-11 open-base models. They share the same rounded Scandinavian design but create very different visual proportions within the room.

Current Bonfire models sit around 5.5kW nominal output, making the range suitable for many medium-sized living spaces. Selected SCAN 68 appliances are also DEFRA-exempt for use in UK Smoke Control Areas when installed and operated according to their exemption.

SCAN 80, 84 & 85

For customers wanting a more distinctive feature stove, SCAN offers several different approaches.

The SCAN 80 has a prismatic body with glazing positioned to provide a broader flame view than a conventional flat-fronted stove. Current models are rated at approximately 6kW.

The SCAN 84 offers a softer rounded design at approximately 5kW and is available in standard and taller Maxi proportions.

The SCAN 85 is taller and more architectural, with a curved sliding door and the option of additional heat-accumulating stones on selected configurations. The range has also received a Red Dot Design Award.

SCAN 87 – A Wall-Mounted Statement Stove

The SCAN 87 is unlike most conventional wood burners. It is a large wall-mounted stove with a highly sculptural circular form and a substantial heat output.

Bonfire currently lists the model at approximately 11.5kW, so it should be selected according to genuine heat demand rather than appearance alone. Its output makes it better suited to substantial or open-plan rooms than a typical smaller living space.

SCAN Inset Wood Burning Fires

SCAN also has a strong collection of built-in wood-burning fireplaces.

The 1000 Series includes a choice of front-facing inset fires with different heat outputs, providing a clean built-in alternative to a freestanding stove.

The 5000 Series moves further into architectural fireplace design, with corner and three-sided models offering substantially more glazing. Current 5103 and 5107 corner models provide outputs around 7.8–9.1kW, while the SCAN 5004 FRL combines three-sided glazing with a guillotine-style door.

For room-divider installations, the SCAN DSA 12 provides a double-sided flame view and a nominal output of approximately 9kW.

Freestanding Stove or Inset Fireplace?

A freestanding SCAN stove normally requires less surrounding construction and allows the shape of the appliance to remain visible.

An inset SCAN fireplace can create a cleaner architectural finish, but the appliance, convection openings, chimney, hearth and surrounding non-combustible structure should be designed together before construction starts.

The choice therefore depends as much on the room and installation as it does on heat output.

What Size SCAN Stove Do I Need?

The SCAN collection ranges from appliances around 5kW to statement models exceeding 10kW.

A larger stove is not automatically better. Insulation, ceiling height, glazing, room volume, external walls and adjoining spaces all affect heat demand. Oversizing can result in an uncomfortable room and poor operating habits.

Our stove calculator can provide an initial output estimate, but the final appliance should be selected around the property and installation.

DEFRA & Ecodesign

Selected SCAN wood-burning stoves are DEFRA-exempt for use with specified fuel in UK Smoke Control Areas, and current models include appliances manufactured to modern Ecodesign requirements.

DEFRA exemption should still be confirmed against the exact model because it applies to individual appliances rather than automatically to the entire SCAN range.

SCAN Stove Installation by Bonfire

Bonfire can supply the appliance only or provide a complete SCAN stove and fireplace installation.

Our service can include home surveys, stove sizing, hearths, fireplace construction, chimney assessment, flexible liners, twin-wall flue systems, professional HETAS installation, commissioning and aftercare.

Selected SCAN appliances can also be discussed at our 4,000 sq. ft. showroom near Reading, Berkshire.
