Woodpecker Wood Burning & Multi-Fuel Stoves

Woodpecker is ACR’s value-focused stove collection, designed in Britain to provide modern clean-burning performance without pushing into premium-stove pricing.

The range is deliberately simple. The compact WP4 is a dedicated wood burner at 4.3kW, while the WP5 family moves to approximately 5kW with multi-fuel capability, larger glass and a choice of standard, wide, pedestal and log-store formats.

This makes Woodpecker particularly easy to compare if you want a dependable stove around the output commonly required in UK living rooms.

Woodpecker WP4 – Compact 4.3kW Wood Burner

The WP4 is the smallest stove in the Woodpecker collection and is particularly useful where both room size and fireplace dimensions are restricted.

It is a dedicated wood-burning stove with a nominal output of approximately 4.3kW and an operating range of around 2–5.5kW.

Unlike the larger WP5 family, the WP4 uses full cast-iron construction. Its body is approximately 373mm wide, making it a practical option for smaller fireplace chambers where a standard 5kW stove can feel oversized.

A large glazed door still provides a generous view of the fire despite the compact dimensions.

WP4 or WP4LS?

The WP4LS uses the same 4.3kW firebox but raises it above an integrated log-store base.

The main difference is therefore presentation rather than heating performance.

Choose the standard WP4 where overall height needs to remain low. Choose the WP4LS where the stove will sit more openly within the room and you want the flame positioned higher, with useful storage underneath.

Woodpecker WP5 – The Core 5kW Multi-Fuel Stove

The WP5 steps up to a nominal output of approximately 5kW and combines steel and cast-iron construction.

It can burn seasoned wood and suitable smokeless fuel in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, making it more flexible than the wood-only WP4.

Current specifications include approximately 82.5% net efficiency, an A+ energy rating and capacity for logs up to around 400mm.

The WP5 is only around 420mm wide and 314mm deep, so it provides a notably large flame window without requiring an especially deep fireplace chamber.

Woodpecker WP5 Plus – Wider Flame View

The WP5 Plus is designed for customers who like the approximately 5kW output of the WP5 but want a wider and more substantial stove.

Its body increases to approximately 490mm wide, while the larger door gives the fire greater visual presence.

Chrome detailing around the controls also differentiates it from the standard WP5.

Importantly, the WP5 Plus remains a 5kW nominal stove. This makes it particularly useful in wider fireplace openings where a standard WP5 might look too small but moving to a higher-output stove would unnecessarily increase the heat.

WP5Q – Pedestal or Log Store?

The WP5Q takes the WP5 firebox and raises it significantly higher.

Two versions provide very different looks:

  • WP5QLS – integrated log-store base
  • WP5QP – clean pedestal base

Both retain approximately 5kW nominal output and the broad glass viewing area, so the choice is primarily about interior design and how much visual height you want from the stove.

The log-store version works well where a practical Scandinavian-style storage area is wanted, while the pedestal creates a lighter, more contemporary appearance.

Wood Burning or Multi-Fuel?

The distinction within this range is simple.

The WP4 and WP4LS are dedicated wood burners. They are the logical choice if you only intend to burn suitably seasoned logs.

The WP5 family provides multi-fuel capability, allowing suitable authorised smokeless fuel to be burned as well as wood.

If you have no intention of using smokeless fuel, fuel flexibility alone should not determine which stove you buy; output, fireplace dimensions and preferred appearance are equally important.

DEFRA Exemption & Ecodesign

Current Woodpecker models are Ecodesign compliant and DEFRA-exempt, allowing specified fuels to be burned in Smoke Control Areas when the appliance is installed and operated in accordance with its exemption.

This is particularly relevant in towns, cities and many parts of London and the South East where Smoke Control Area restrictions apply.

Direct Air for Newer Homes

Selected Woodpecker models can use an optional Direct Air kit, allowing combustion air to be supplied directly from outside rather than relying entirely on air from the room.

This can be particularly useful in highly insulated and newer properties, although the ventilation strategy should always be assessed as part of the complete installation.

Can Woodpecker Stoves Sit on a 12mm Hearth?

Current Woodpecker models have hearth-temperature test results below 100°C and can be installed on a suitable 12mm non-combustible hearth where all Building Regulation and manufacturer requirements are satisfied.

This can help create a cleaner, lower-profile installation than appliances requiring a more substantial constructional hearth.

Woodpecker Warranty & Spare Parts

ACR currently provides a five-year warranty on stove castings when applicable warranty conditions are met and the appliance is purchased through its recommended dealer network.

Genuine replacement parts are also available for current Woodpecker models, including bricks, grates, baffles, glass, seals, ash pans and door components.

Woodpecker Installation by Bonfire

Bonfire can supply your stove only or provide a complete survey and HETAS installation service.

This can include stove sizing, hearths, fireplace chambers, chimney inspection, flexible liners, insulated twin-wall chimney systems, Direct Air planning, commissioning and aftercare.
