Geocast

Shop Geocast non-combustible fireplace beams from Bonfire. Geocast beams reproduce the character of real oak using a durable inorganic, non-combustible material, making them particularly useful above wood-burning stoves where timber clearance requirements can restrict the fireplace design.

Choose Classic Light Oak, Classic Dark Oak, Rustic Natural Oak, Rustic Dark Oak or the larger Heritage Natural Oak beam. Each design is moulded for realistic timber texture and supplied with fixings, with optional ambient lighting available on selected Classic sizes.

Geocast Non-Combustible Fireplace Beams

Geocast fireplace beams are designed for customers who want the appearance of a traditional oak mantel without introducing a large combustible timber directly above the stove or fire.

The beams are manufactured from a natural inorganic, non-combustible material and moulded with detailed grain, knots and surface character to recreate the appearance of real timber.

Bonfire currently offers five Geocast oak-effect designs across Classic, Rustic and Heritage formats.

Why Choose a Non-Combustible Beam?

A solid oak beam is combustible. Every wood-burning stove therefore has manufacturer-specified distances that must be maintained between the appliance and combustible materials above and around it.

In some fireplaces, achieving that clearance can force a real timber mantel much higher up the wall than intended.

A non-combustible beam can provide more design flexibility because the beam itself is not timber. Geocast states that its beams can generally be positioned closer to a stove than real wood while still complying with the minimum clearances required for the appliance and installation.

This does not mean a Geocast beam can be placed immediately above any stove. The stove manufacturer’s distance to non-combustible materials and the Geocast installation instructions must still be followed.

Which Geocast Beam Should You Choose?

Classic Dark OakDarker aged-oak appearanceTraditional fireplaces and stronger contrast
Rustic Natural OakMore pronounced rustic characterCottages and country-style fireplaces
Rustic Dark OakRustic grain with deeper colouringInglenooks and traditional stove chambers

Classic Geocast Beams

The Classic range provides the cleanest and most versatile Geocast profile.

Bonfire offers Classic beams in Light Oak and Dark Oak, with sizes starting from approximately 36 inches on selected versions and extending through common fireplace widths such as 42 and 48 inches.

The profile is approximately 5½ inches high by 4 inches deep, giving enough visual substance to frame a fireplace without becoming excessively heavy in appearance.

These work particularly well above standard stove chambers, limestone surrounds and simpler contemporary fireplaces where the beam should add warmth without dominating the wall.

Rustic Geocast Beams

The Rustic collection has stronger timber character and is better suited where the intention is to recreate the appearance of an older oak mantel.

Natural and Dark Oak finishes allow the same textured style to work with lighter country interiors or darker traditional schemes.

Rustic beams are particularly effective above exposed brick chambers, stone fireplaces and cottage-style wood-burning stove installations.

Geocast Heritage Beam

The Heritage is a larger-format beam for fireplaces where the mantel needs greater visual weight.

Current Bonfire versions are approximately 9 inches high by 4 inches deep and are available in wider fireplace lengths.

Its larger profile works particularly well above substantial chimney breasts, larger inglenooks and fireplaces where a shallow Classic beam could look undersized.

The Heritage still uses the same non-combustible principle, allowing the appearance of a substantial timber mantel without using a large piece of combustible oak.

Do Geocast Beams Look Like Real Wood?

Geocast beams are moulded to create a high-definition timber texture rather than simply printing a wood pattern onto a smooth surface.

Grain, knots and imperfections are reproduced within the surface, helping give the beam depth when viewed from normal room distance.

The finishes are designed to imitate different ages and tones of oak, so the best choice will depend on the surrounding hearth, chamber, flooring and furniture.

If matching an existing timber floor or piece of furniture precisely is important, viewing the finish before ordering is advisable because an oak-effect beam will not behave or age in exactly the same way as natural timber.

Optional Lighting

Selected Classic Geocast beams can be fitted with an optional integrated ambient-lighting kit.

The lights sit underneath the beam and illuminate the fireplace opening, helping create a softer feature even when the stove is not burning.

The lighting operates independently from the stove, so it can be used throughout the year.

Availability depends on the beam size, so check the individual product specification before ordering.

Geocast or Real Oak?

The choice mainly comes down to authenticity versus clearance flexibility.

Real oak provides genuine natural grain, colour variation and ageing, but it remains combustible and must be installed at the clearances specified by the stove manufacturer.

Geocast reproduces the look of timber using a non-combustible material, which can make it much easier to achieve the desired mantel height around a solid-fuel appliance.

Where the fireplace provides generous clearance, real timber can remain an excellent option. Where the beam needs to sit relatively close to the stove, a non-combustible design is often the more practical solution.

Installing a Geocast Fireplace Beam

Geocast beams are supplied with fixings, but the supporting wall and final fixing method must be suitable for the product and installation.

Before fitting, confirm:

  • Finished beam height
  • Stove-to-beam clearance
  • Wall construction
  • Beam length and visual overhang
  • Flue position
  • Optional lighting requirements

The beam should always be installed in accordance with the Geocast instructions and the clearance requirements stated by the stove manufacturer.

Geocast FAQs

Are Geocast fireplace beams non-combustible?

Yes. Geocast beams are manufactured from a natural inorganic, non-combustible material.

Can a Geocast beam go closer to a wood burner than oak?

Generally yes, because Geocast is non-combustible while real oak is combustible. However, the minimum clearance specified for the stove and beam installation must still be maintained.

Are Geocast beams made from real wood?

No. They are moulded from a non-combustible inorganic material to reproduce the grain and appearance of timber.

What Geocast colours are available?

Bonfire currently offers Classic Light Oak, Classic Dark Oak, Rustic Natural Oak, Rustic Dark Oak and Heritage Natural Oak.

Can Geocast beams have lights underneath?

Selected Classic beam sizes can be ordered with an optional ambient-lighting kit that operates separately from the stove.

Do Geocast beams come with fixings?

Yes. Geocast beams include their fixing components. The wall and installation must still be suitable for the beam.

Can Bonfire install my Geocast beam?

Yes. A Geocast beam can be incorporated into a suitable complete fireplace or stove installation carried out by Bonfire.
