Solo Stove Smokeless Fire Pits
Solo Stove specialises in portable outdoor fire pits designed to produce a hotter, more efficient burn with significantly less smoke than a conventional open fire pit.
Its most recognisable feature is the cylindrical double-wall body. Air is drawn through vents at the base, heated as it rises between the walls and then reintroduced near the top of the fire. This creates a secondary burn that helps consume smoke and unburnt gases before they leave the fire pit.
Bonfire is an authorised Solo Stove dealer and currently offers the core Ranger, Bonfire and Mesa fire pits alongside accessories for heat distribution, surface protection, sparks, storage and pellet use.

How Does a Solo Stove Produce Less Smoke?
Solo Stove calls its system Signature 360° Airflow.
Cool air enters through holes around the lower outside edge of the fire pit. Part of this airflow feeds the fire from underneath, while another portion travels upwards inside the double wall.
As the air becomes hotter, it exits through the upper internal vents and ignites gases that would otherwise leave the fire as smoke.
This visible secondary combustion is one of the defining characteristics of a properly burning Solo Stove.
The fire pit is therefore better described as smokeless or low-smoke rather than literally producing no smoke under every condition. Wet wood, poor lighting and unsuitable fuel can still create smoke, particularly during start-up.
Solo Stove Ranger 2.0
The Ranger 2.0 is the more compact of the two full-sized fire pits currently sold by Bonfire.
Its smaller diameter makes it easier to move, store and transport, so it works particularly well for smaller patios, camping trips and households that do not want a large permanent fire-pit feature.
Solo Stove positions the Ranger for approximately 2–4 people.
The 2.0 generation also incorporates a removable base plate and ash pan, meaning the cooled ash can be lifted out rather than tipping the entire fire pit upside down after use.
Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0
The Bonfire 2.0 is the most popular middle-sized Solo Stove fire pit and provides a stronger balance between portability and gathering space.
At approximately 49.5cm diameter, it is noticeably broader than the Ranger and is designed for roughly 4–6 people.
This makes it a good general-purpose choice for a typical patio or garden where the fire will normally remain at home but may still need to be moved or stored.
Like Ranger 2.0, the current Bonfire uses a removable ash pan and base plate for easier cleaning.
Ranger or Bonfire?
The main difference is physical scale rather than fundamentally different combustion technology.
Choose Ranger if portability and a smaller footprint are most important.
Choose Bonfire if several people will regularly sit around the fire and you have more room available on the patio.
Both use the same underlying airflow principle and durable stainless-steel construction.
Solo Stove Mesa & Mesa XL
The Mesa collection brings Solo Stove’s secondary-burn concept down to tabletop size.
These are designed for outdoor tables and smaller social spaces rather than replacing a full garden fire pit.
The larger Mesa XL creates a broader flame and Solo Stove quotes a heat radius of approximately 0.6–0.9 metres.
Current tabletop models can burn either suitably sized wood or wood pellets, providing more fuel flexibility than the larger standard fire pits.
What Is Solo Stove Made From?
Current Ranger, Bonfire and Mesa products use 304 stainless steel.
This material provides good corrosion resistance while tolerating the very high temperatures created by secondary combustion.
The fire pits are relatively lightweight for their size, which is an important part of the Solo Stove concept: unlike a masonry fire pit, they can be repositioned or stored when not in use.
What Does the Solo Stove Stand Do?
The Stand raises the fire pit above the surface below it and creates an additional air gap.
It is particularly important where you want to use a Solo Stove on a compatible heat-sensitive surface.
You should still follow Solo Stove’s specific guidance for the surface beneath the fire. A stand does not mean the fire pit can automatically be placed on any combustible material without considering heat transfer and surrounding clearances.
Solo Stove Heat Deflector
One characteristic of an open-topped fire pit is that a considerable amount of heat naturally rises upwards.
The Heat Deflector sits above the fire and redirects more radiant heat downwards and outwards towards people sitting around it.
This can make a significant difference when the Solo Stove is being used primarily for warmth rather than simply flame ambience.
Shield, Shelter & Other Accessories
The accessory range allows the fire pit to be adapted to different outdoor setups.
- Shield – helps reduce sparks and embers leaving the top of the fire pit
- Shelter – weather-resistant cover for storage between uses
- Heat Deflector – directs more heat towards the seating area
- Stand – raises the fire pit away from the surface below
- Pellet Adapter – allows compatible larger fire pits to burn pellets
- Mesa Accessory Pack – adds tools and accessories for tabletop use
Wood or Pellets?
Ranger and Bonfire are primarily designed around dry wood, while compatible pellet adapters allow selected models to use wood pellets.
Pellets can provide a more uniform fuel source and can be particularly convenient where storing larger logs is undesirable.
Mesa and Mesa XL are designed to work with either small pieces of wood or suitable pellets.
Is Solo Stove Completely Smokeless?
No wood fire can guarantee zero smoke under every operating condition.
Solo Stove’s design greatly reduces visible smoke once the secondary burn is established, but good fuel remains essential.
For the cleanest burn, use dry untreated wood and avoid overfilling the fire pit above its recommended fuel level.
Using Solo Stove Safely
Solo Stove fire pits become extremely hot during use.
Keep children, pets, furniture and combustible materials at a safe distance, never leave a burning fire unattended and allow the fire pit to cool completely before handling or emptying ash.
Outdoor fire-pit use should also comply with any local restrictions, property rules and temporary fire-safety guidance that applies at the time.

Solo Stove FAQs
How does a Solo Stove work?
Air enters through vents at the bottom of the double-wall fire pit. Heated air then exits through upper internal vents, creating secondary combustion that burns gases and reduces visible smoke.
What is the difference between Ranger and Bonfire?
Ranger is smaller and easier to transport, while Bonfire has a wider diameter and is better suited to larger garden gatherings. Both use Solo Stove’s Signature 360° Airflow technology.
What changed with Solo Stove 2.0?
The 2.0 fire pits include a removable base plate and ash pan, making it much easier to remove ash after the fire has completely cooled.
Can Solo Stove burn pellets?
Mesa tabletop fire pits can use suitable pellets or small wood. Ranger 2.0 can also use pellets when fitted with the appropriate Solo Stove pellet adapter.
Does Solo Stove produce no smoke at all?
No. The design significantly reduces smoke after secondary combustion is established, but start-up, wet fuel and poor burning conditions can still produce smoke.
What does a Solo Stove Heat Deflector do?
It redirects more heat downwards and outwards instead of allowing most of the warmth to rise directly above the fire pit.
Can I leave my Solo Stove outside?
The fire pits use corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel, but Solo Stove recommends appropriate protection such as its Lid or Shelter when the product is being stored outdoors.
