Rocal Designer Wood Burning Fireplaces

Rocal is a Spanish fireplace manufacturer with more than 40 years of experience creating wood-burning stoves, designer fireplaces, inset fires and high-performance fireboxes.

Unlike a conventional stove range built around variations of the same square appliance, Rocal offers a much wider choice of architectural formats. Wall-mounted, suspended, corner, double-sided and three-sided fires allow the appliance and flue to become part of the room design.

Bonfire supplies Rocal throughout the UK, with professional survey, flue design and installation available across our installation area.

What Makes Rocal Different?

Rocal is particularly suited to customers who want the fire to become a focal point rather than simply sit inside a traditional fireplace opening.

  • Designed and manufactured in Spain
  • Freestanding and wall-mounted wood burners
  • Suspended and ceiling-hung fireplaces
  • Corner and panoramic models
  • Double-sided fires for room-divider installations
  • Inset ARC and G Series fireplaces
  • Large glass areas and contemporary steel construction
  • Models with external-air capability
  • Wood-burning cooker options such as the Rocal Hebar

Rocal Habit Stoves

The Rocal Habit range provides some of the most versatile appliances in the collection. Different widths, outputs and glass configurations are available, with selected models offered on a hearth, wall-mounted, on a log-store base or mounted on a stove bench.

The range includes compact models such as the Habit 50V through to larger Habit 80 and Habit 100 appliances. Corner, three-sided and double-sided versions provide additional viewing angles for more architectural installations.

The Rocal Habit 100 DC, for example, provides a double-sided flame view and can work particularly well between two connected living spaces.

Rocal Suspended & Wall-Mounted Fires

One of the areas where Rocal stands apart is its choice of suspended and wall-mounted wood burners.

Models such as the D8, Mini Drop, Ronde and Angle move the fire away from the conventional hearth-mounted stove format and can create a much lighter, more sculptural appearance.

The Rocal Angle is particularly flexible because it can work against a flat wall or within a corner arrangement, while the Mini Drop provides a more compact interpretation of Rocal’s distinctive suspended-fireplace styling.

These installations need careful planning because the flue position, appliance support, combustible clearances and hearth arrangement are all visually exposed.

Rocal ARC & G Series Inset Fires

For customers wanting the fire integrated into a chimney breast or purpose-built fireplace, Rocal produces substantial inset wood-burning appliances.

The ARC range includes front-facing, corner and double-sided formats, while the larger G Series provides architectural fireplaces with generous glass areas and vertically sliding guillotine doors on selected models.

For example, the Rocal G450 DC is a double-sided tunnel fire designed to provide a flame view from two rooms or two sides of the same open-plan space.

These larger appliances should be specified alongside the fireplace construction, ventilation and flue system from the beginning of the project.

Rocal Heat Output & Room Sizing

Rocal includes many medium and high-output appliances, so correct sizing is particularly important. Some Habit models sit around the 8–9kW level, while larger inset and double-sided fires can exceed 12kW.

A large glass area does not mean the largest output is automatically appropriate. Insulation, glazing, ceiling height, room volume and adjoining spaces should all be considered before selecting the appliance.

For a highly insulated or relatively compact room, some of Rocal’s larger architectural fires may simply produce more heat than required.

Rocal, DEFRA & Ecodesign

Many current Rocal appliances meet Ecodesign requirements, but DEFRA exemption should never be assumed across the Rocal range.

Some Rocal models are not DEFRA-exempt and therefore may not be suitable for burning wood in a UK Smoke Control Area. The Rocal Angle, for example, is currently listed as not DEFRA approved.

Always check the exact model and your local Smoke Control Area requirements before ordering. Our team can help identify whether a particular Rocal appliance is suitable for the proposed property.

Rocal Flue Design & Installation

With Rocal, the flue is often a visible part of the finished design rather than something hidden inside a traditional chimney.

Bonfire can provide a complete Rocal design and installation service, including:

  • Home and site surveys
  • Heat-output and appliance specification
  • Hearth and fireplace design
  • Existing chimney assessment
  • Flexible chimney liners where appropriate
  • Twin-wall flue design for properties without a chimney
  • Support and clearances for wall-mounted or suspended models
  • HETAS installation, testing and commissioning

For suspended, wall-mounted and large built-in Rocal fires, we strongly recommend establishing the appliance and flue route before building or finishing the surrounding structure.

Rocal FAQs

Where are Rocal fireplaces made?

Rocal is a Spanish fireplace manufacturer with more than 40 years of experience producing contemporary wood-burning stoves, fireplaces and inserts.

Are Rocal stoves DEFRA exempt?

Not all Rocal models are DEFRA-exempt. Smoke Control Area suitability must be checked against the exact appliance before purchase.

Can a Rocal stove be installed without a chimney?

In many properties, yes. A properly designed insulated twin-wall flue system can often provide the required chimney where no suitable masonry chimney exists.

Does Rocal make double-sided fireplaces?

Yes. Rocal offers double-sided models within ranges including Habit, ARC and the G Series, making them suitable for room dividers and open-plan interiors.

What is a suspended Rocal fireplace?

A suspended fireplace is positioned above the floor rather than sitting like a conventional hearth-mounted stove. Selected Rocal designs can be wall-mounted or suspended, creating a distinctive architectural appearance.

Can Bonfire install a Rocal fireplace?

Yes. Bonfire can provide survey, fireplace and flue specification, twin-wall chimney systems and professional HETAS installation for suitable Rocal projects.
