Morsø – Danish Cast Iron Since 1853

Morsø has been producing cast-iron products in Denmark since 1853 and remains one of the most recognisable Scandinavian stove manufacturers. Its range combines traditional wood burners with cleaner contemporary designs, inset fires and a substantial outdoor-living collection.

For customers who value longevity, Morsø is particularly interesting because many of its appliances are assembled from replaceable cast components rather than relying entirely on welded construction. Morsø also states that spare parts remain available for a minimum of 10 years after a stove is discontinued.

Why Morsø Uses Cast Iron

Cast iron handles repeated heating and cooling particularly well and gives Morsø its distinctive combination of durability, heat retention and detailed stove design.

Morsø’s cast-iron stove bodies are assembled from individual components, allowing damaged or worn parts to be replaced separately. The material also distributes heat evenly and resists distortion under repeated high temperatures.

This construction is equally suited to the decorative squirrel motifs and traditional detailing of older Morsø designs and the smoother forms of its modern Scandinavian stoves.

Classic Morsø Stoves

Morsø Squirrel

The Morsø Squirrel is one of the brand’s best-known stove designs. Compact proportions, cast-iron construction and the distinctive squirrel motif make it particularly suited to cottages, smaller fireplaces and traditional interiors.

Current Bonfire options include wood-burning and multi-fuel versions, with models around the popular 5kW output level.

Morsø 2B

The Morsø 2B is another long-established design, with an elongated firebox and more traditional proportions than many modern square stoves.

Bonfire offers both 2B Standard and 2B Classic models, currently listed at around 8kW, making them better suited to rooms with a more substantial heating requirement than a typical 5kW appliance.

Morsø Badger

The Badger family provides a more conventional compact stove format. Models such as the 3112, 3116 and 3142 offer wood-burning and multi-fuel choices around the 5kW level, depending on the individual appliance.

Modern Morsø Wood Burning Stoves

Morsø’s contemporary ranges retain cast-iron construction while moving towards simpler Scandinavian lines, larger glass doors and different base arrangements.

The 6100 Series includes models such as the 6140 low-base, 6143 log-store and 6148 pedestal stove. These allow customers to choose essentially the same design language at different heights and with different visual proportions.

The 6800 Series develops the concept further. The Morsø 6843, for example, combines a log-store base, self-closing door and rounded cast-iron body with a nominal output of approximately 5.8kW.

Morsø Inset Wood Burning Fires

Morsø is not limited to freestanding stoves. The Morsø 5660 provides a built-in wood-burning option for customers who want a cleaner integrated fireplace appearance.

Inset fires should be specified alongside the opening dimensions, hearth, chimney and ventilation requirements before fireplace construction or alteration begins.

Wood Burning or Multi-Fuel Morsø?

A dedicated wood-burning stove is designed primarily around seasoned logs, while a multi-fuel model incorporates the features required to burn suitable smokeless fuels as well.

Morsø offers both formats across selected traditional ranges. If you expect to burn logs almost exclusively, a dedicated wood burner may be the simpler choice. If fuel flexibility matters, compare the multi-fuel models and check the exact fuels permitted by the manufacturer.

What Size Morsø Stove Do I Need?

Output varies considerably across the range. Many compact Morsø models sit around 5–6kW, while larger traditional appliances such as the 2B can provide considerably more heat.

Room dimensions alone should not determine the stove size. Insulation, glazing, ceiling height, property construction and adjoining spaces all affect heat loss. A stove that is too powerful can make the room uncomfortable and encourage poor low-output operation.

Morsø Outdoor Living

Morsø has also developed a substantial outdoor living collection, including outdoor ovens, grills, fire pits and garden cooking accessories.

The Forno range is particularly well known and helped develop Morsø from a stove manufacturer into a wider indoor-and-outdoor lifestyle brand.

Bonfire’s Morsø category therefore includes both indoor stoves and outdoor products, allowing customers to browse the wider brand collection from one place.

Morsø Stove Installation

Bonfire can supply a Morsø stove on its own or provide a complete survey and installation service.

This can include stove sizing, hearths, fireplace preparation, chimney inspection, flexible liners, twin-wall flue systems for properties without a suitable chimney, HETAS installation, commissioning and aftercare.
