ILD Scandinavian Wood Burning Stoves
ILD is a collection of contemporary wood-burning stoves developed within the Jøtul Group. The range combines Scandinavian styling with simple operation, efficient combustion and a logical progression of sizes from compact 5.5kW appliances to substantial 8.5kW panoramic stoves.
Bonfire is an official UK distributor of ILD Stoves. The current collection contains eight dedicated wood burners, so choosing between them is primarily about heat output, flame visibility, stove width and whether you want steel or heat-retaining stone.
Which ILD Stove Should I Choose?
| Model | Nominal Output | Key Difference |
|---|---|---|
| ILD 7 ECO | 5.5kW | Smallest and most compact ILD |
| ILD 8 ECO | 5.5kW | Glass on three sides |
| ILD 9 ECO | 6.5kW | Wide landscape flame view |
| ILD 10 ECO | 6.5kW | Curved front glass plus side glazing |
| ILD 11 ECO | 6.5kW | Heat-retaining soapstone cladding |
| ILD 12 ECO | 8.5kW | Large panoramic firebox |
| ILD 13 ECO | 8.5kW | Large format with heat-retaining stone |
| ILD 15 ECO | 6kW | Three-sided glass on a pedestal |
ILD 7 & ILD 8 – Compact 5.5kW Stoves
The ILD 7 ECO is the smallest stove in the family. At approximately 5.5kW nominal output and 81% efficiency, it provides a compact option for homes where a tall contemporary stove is wanted without moving into a larger 6.5–8.5kW appliance.
The ILD 8 ECO uses the same general proportions and output but adds glass on three sides. This provides a broader view of the fire when the stove sits forward within the room rather than deep inside a narrow fireplace recess.
Both incorporate an integrated ash drawer and can be finished with an optional door to the lower section.
ILD 9, 10 & 11 – Three Ways to Use 6.5kW
The centre of the range consists of three stoves producing approximately 6.5kW, but each creates a very different appearance.
The ILD 9 ECO has a wider firebox and landscape flame view. It is a good option where more horizontal proportions suit the fireplace or wall.
The ILD 10 ECO adds curved front glass and narrow glazing on each side, allowing the flames to be viewed from different positions around the room. A storage compartment in the base can also be closed with an optional door.
The ILD 11 ECO retains the 6.5kW output but surrounds the body with heat-retaining stone. The stone absorbs heat while the stove is burning and continues to release some of that warmth after the fire has reduced.
ILD 12 & ILD 13 – 8.5kW for Larger Spaces
The ILD 12 ECO and ILD 13 ECO move into a significantly larger heating category at approximately 8.5kW nominal output.
Both use a broad widescreen firebox capable of accepting logs up to approximately 50cm long, giving the fire a much more expansive appearance than the smaller ILD models.
The ILD 12 uses a cleaner steel finish, while the ILD 13 adds heat-retaining serpentine stone. At around 204kg, the ILD 13 is a substantial appliance intended to combine higher heating performance with thermal mass.
These models should be selected for rooms that genuinely require the additional heat rather than simply because a wide stove suits the fireplace visually.
ILD 15 – Three-Sided Pedestal Stove
The ILD 15 ECO is visually different from the rest of the range.
The firebox is raised on a sculptural pedestal and surrounded by glass on three sides, creating an approximately 6kW stove that works particularly well where the appliance is visible from several areas of an open-plan room.
Its raised flame position also gives the stove more architectural presence without moving to the 8.5kW output of the ILD 12 or 13.
Steel or Heat-Retaining Stone?
ILD 11 and ILD 13 provide a useful alternative to the standard black steel models.
Their natural stone cladding adds significant thermal mass. Instead of cooling as quickly as a lighter steel surface once the flames die down, the stone stores some of the heat generated during combustion and gradually releases it afterwards.
This does not create extra energy, but it changes how the warmth is delivered and can provide a gentler period of residual heat after the fire has burnt down.
Front Glass or Three-Sided Glass?
The position of the stove should influence how much glazing you choose.
A front-facing ILD works well within a fireplace chamber where the sides of the appliance are partly concealed.
Models such as the ILD 8, ILD 10 and ILD 15 provide additional side views and are particularly effective when the stove stands more openly within the room.
There is little benefit in paying for extensive side glazing if those panels will ultimately be hidden by the fireplace opening.
Dedicated Wood Burning
The current ILD collection sold by Bonfire consists of wood-burning stoves rather than multi-fuel appliances.
They are intended for dry, seasoned firewood used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. ILD guidance recommends properly dried wood and specifically prohibits treated timber, waste and liquid fuels.
If burning authorised smokeless mineral fuel is essential, another stove range with dedicated multi-fuel capability would be more suitable.
Efficiency & Ecodesign
Current ILD models achieve efficiencies of approximately 77–81% depending on the appliance, with modern combustion systems designed around current environmental requirements.
Smoke Control Area suitability should still be confirmed against the exact UK model before purchase rather than assuming that every ILD configuration has identical certification.
Choosing the Correct ILD Output
The range covers three noticeably different heating levels: approximately 5.5kW, 6–6.5kW and 8.5kW.
Room volume, property age, glazing, insulation and adjoining spaces should determine which is appropriate. A larger flame window does not necessarily mean you need a larger heat output.

ILD Stove Installation by Bonfire
Bonfire can supply your ILD stove only or provide a complete survey and installation service.
This can include stove sizing, hearths, fireplace preparation, chimney assessment, flexible liners, insulated twin-wall flue systems, HETAS installation, commissioning and aftercare.
