This year, a very special cause has touched everyone at Bonfire. One of our colleagues has a granddaughter called Sofia, a happy and brave 3 year old girl who is raising money for King’s College Hospital Charity and hoping to take part in the British Transplant Games in August 2026.
The Games are set to take place from Thursday 6 August to Sunday 9 August 2026.
Sofia’s Story
When Sofia was just a tiny baby, she became very poorly. At only 8 weeks old, doctors diagnosed her with biliary atresia, a serious liver condition that meant her liver was not working properly.
At just 9 months old, Sofia received an incredible gift from her dad — part of his liver. This life saving transplant gave Sofia the chance to grow, play, laugh and enjoy life as the busy little girl she is today.
Life after a transplant still brings challenges. Sofia continues to attend regular hospital check ups, take daily medication and go through the things that many children her age would find frightening. But through it all, she remains strong, happy and full of energy.
Raising Money for the Transplant Games and King’s College Hospital Charity
In August, Sofia is hoping to attend the British Transplant Games, a special event where children and adults who have received transplants can come together, take part in sports, meet other families and celebrate the strength, courage and resilience of the transplant community.
Sofia’s family are holding a spring fundraiser on Saturday 6 June 2026 to help raise money towards this amazing experience and to support King’s College Hospital Charity, which helps fund vital care, support and services for patients and families. King’s College Hospital Charity supports work connected to King’s, including children’s liver and transplant services.
How Bonfire and Our Suppliers Are Helping
As a local, independent business, we believe in helping where we can. Bonfire is supporting Sofia’s fundraiser, and we are incredibly grateful that some of our suppliers have also kindly offered their help.
Their generosity will make a real difference to Sofia’s fundraising event and help make the raffle and tombola even more special.
