This recent fireplace design, supply and installation project in Surrey brought together traditional craftsmanship, modern gas stove performance and a fully bespoke false chimney breast to create a stunning centrepiece for a beautiful family home.
The customer wanted the warmth and character of a real fireplace feature, but without relying on an existing traditional chimney.
Our in-house team designed and installed a complete turnkey fireplace solution, featuring a bespoke false chimney breast, a full balanced flue system, the elegant Huntingdon 40 balanced flue gas stove, and our handcrafted Hardwick Bath Stone fireplace surround with matching bespoke hearths and chamber linings.
The result is a beautifully proportioned fireplace installation that feels completely natural within the room, while providing the convenience and efficiency of a modern balanced flue gas stove.
The Brief
The homeowners wanted to create a classic fireplace focal point that would suit the style of their Surrey home while also offering practical everyday use.
As there was no suitable existing fireplace opening for the desired design, the project required a carefully built false chimney breast. This needed to be safely constructed, correctly ventilated and properly boarded to suit the selected gas appliance and surrounding materials.

For this Surrey home, the Hardwick design was paired with:

The customer selected the Huntingdon 40 balanced flue gas stove, a popular choice for homeowners who want the look of a traditional stove with the convenience of gas.
A balanced flue gas stove is ideal for many homes where a conventional chimney is not available or where a more flexible flue route is required. The appliance is room sealed, drawing air from outside and expelling combustion gases safely through the balanced flue system.
This made it a strong option for this project, allowing the customer to enjoy a realistic stove style fireplace feature without needing a traditional open chimney.
Bespoke False Chimney Breast Installation
A key part of this project was the construction of a bespoke false chimney breast.
This was designed to house the gas stove, balanced flue system and stone fireplace surround safely and neatly. Correct ventilation, boarding and clearances were all considered during the design and installation process to ensure the finished result was both beautiful and compliant.
