How you open a Stûv fireplace depends on the model. On many Stûv inset fireplaces, the glass door opens using the supplied fireplace handle. Some models have a hinged door, while Stûv 21 fireplaces use a lift-up/sliding glass system for open-fire or closed-door operation. Always use the correct Stûv handle and check the model manual before opening the door, especially when the appliance is hot.
To clean Stûv fireplace glass, wait until the appliance is completely cold, then wipe the inside of the glass with a damp cloth or paper towel. For light soot, Stûv recommends using a damp paper towel dipped in fine wood ash, then wiping clean. Avoid oven cleaner, as Stûv warns it can damage the door seals. Dry the glass fully afterwards, as smoke sticks more easily to greasy residue.
