When our client in Basingstoke approached us to design and install a bespoke media wall, their vision was clear: they wanted a striking feature that would completely transform their living room.
The aim was to create a centerpiece that combined both modern design and practical warmth, making the space not only stylish but also cosy and inviting.
They wanted the media wall to be fully functional, offering a sleek design that incorporated a gas fire for added warmth, while also ensuring safety with a non-combustible wall.

This project presented several challenges along the way, but through thoughtful design and expert execution, we were able to bring our client’s vision to life and exceed their expectations.

The Client’s Vision and Requirements
The client had a specific idea in mind for their living room. They wanted the media wall to act as the central focal point of the room, integrating a modern gas fire, but with a carefully designed feature that would blend seamlessly with the overall aesthetic of the space. Their wish was to create a comfortable, ambient environment where they could relax, enjoy their TV, and feel the warmth of the fire without compromising on style or functionality.
In addition to aesthetics and warmth, the client also had safety considerations. They required the wall to be fully non-combustible – a key factor in ensuring that the gas fire and other elements were installed safely and in accordance with industry standards.
The Challenges We Faced
As with any bespoke design, there were several challenges to overcome during the project. One of the main challenges was achieving perfect alignment of the components within the media wall. Our design included a custom false chimney breast that would house the Corner Bell gas fire, and aligning this feature with the rest of the media wall, including the TV area and storage elements, required meticulous attention to detail.
Structural Integrity of the Bench
A key feature of the design was a side storage bench that would not only add a practical element for storing logs but also serve as a stylish place for ornaments. However, ensuring the bench was structurally sound presented a challenge. Given the size of the bench and the weight it would support, we needed to reinforce it to ensure durability and long term use.
The solution was to use a metal pole to provide additional strength and support to the bench. However, we wanted to make sure that the pole didn’t disrupt the natural flow of the design. To maintain the aesthetic of the media wall, we cleverly disguised the metal pole by running it through a couple of logs, blending the support system seamlessly into the overall design. This not only ensured the strength of the bench but also enhanced the natural and rustic feel of the media wall.
Non-Combustible Wall Installation
The client’s request for a fully non-combustible wall posed another challenge. The gas fire needed to be installed within a non-combustible frame, but this had to be done without compromising the overall design.
To achieve this, we worked with high quality materials that ensured both safety and visual appeal, maintaining the modern, sleek aesthetic the client desired. The wall was carefully constructed to meet all safety regulations, with an integrated ventilation system to keep airflow optimal.
Flue and Ventilation Integration
One of the technical challenges was installing the fully integrated flue system, which is essential for ensuring that the gas fire operates safely. This had to be incorporated into the wall in a way that was both functional and discreet. The entire system needed to be hidden behind the false chimney breast while still maintaining proper ventilation and air circulation to ensure the fire’s efficiency and safety.
Our team worked closely with certified Gas Safe engineers to ensure that the flue was correctly installed, providing the necessary ventilation for the fire while remaining completely out of sight. The result was a fully integrated and invisible system that enhanced the overall appearance of the wall without distracting from the beauty of the fire or the media area.
The Final Result
The end result of this project is a beautifully designed and highly functional media wall that has completely transformed the living room. The Bellfires corner bell gas fire is the star of the design, offering a sleek and modern touch while providing much needed warmth to the space.

The custom false chimney breast was then plastered by us to cope with the high temperatures that the wall will have to deal with.

The side storage bench, reinforced with the discreet metal pole, is both practical and stylish, providing storage for logs and creating a space for decorative pieces. The limestone hearths and faces offer a refined finish, while the integrated flue system ensures safety and optimal performance of the gas fire.
The media wall is a stunning blend of style, warmth, and functionality, creating a welcoming atmosphere that draws the eye and invites relaxation. It is a true testament to the expertise of our in house design and installation team, who worked through every challenge to ensure that every detail was executed perfectly.
