British Fires Signature vs Deluxe vs Black Edition: What’s the Difference?

If you’re choosing a British Fires New Forest electric fire, one of the main decisions is whether to choose Signature, Deluxe or Black Edition.

The fire itself may be the same size, but the fuel bed and internal finish can significantly change how the flames and logs look. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can decide which British Fires edition is right for you.

British Fires Signature vs Deluxe vs Black Edition

EditionFuel BedRear FinishBest For
SignatureForest View ceramic logsStandard interiorA realistic New Forest fire with a traditional ceramic log arrangement
DeluxeDeluxe Real LogsReflective internal appearanceCustomers wanting the added detail and individuality of real oak logs
Black EditionDeluxe Real LogsRear Dark GlassA darker, higher-contrast appearance that puts greater emphasis on the flames and logs

What Is British Fires Signature Edition?

Signature Edition uses the British Fires Forest View ceramic log set. The ceramic logs are combined with loose fuel-bed materials to create a natural woodland-style appearance.

Includes ceramic painted logs, wood tusk and slates with crystals
Also, includes large and small crystals to be used with the pink and blue lights

Signature is a good choice if you like the established New Forest look and do not require the real oak logs supplied with the Deluxe and Black Editions.

What Is British Fires Deluxe Edition?

Deluxe Edition upgrades the fire with British Fires Deluxe Real Logs.

These use real oak logs which are individually prepared and hand-charred, resulting in natural differences between each fuel bed. This gives the Deluxe Edition a more organic appearance than a manufactured ceramic log set.

Includes deluxe real logs

The reflective interior also helps create additional visual depth around the flame effect and log arrangement.

What Is British Fires Black Edition?

Black Edition also includes the Deluxe Real Logs but changes the appearance behind the fuel bed by using Rear Dark Glass.

Includes deluxe real logs and black rear glass

The darker background absorbs more unwanted reflection and creates stronger contrast between the flames, logs and rear of the fire. The result is a deeper, darker appearance than the more reflective Deluxe Edition.

If you prefer a dramatic flame picture with less reflection behind the fuel bed, Black Edition is likely to be the specification worth considering.

Deluxe vs Black Edition: What Is the Main Difference?

The most important point is that both Deluxe and Black Edition use the Deluxe Real Logs.

The main visual difference is behind them:

  • Deluxe Edition uses a more reflective internal finish to increase the sense of depth.
  • Black Edition uses Rear Dark Glass to create a darker backdrop and stronger flame contrast.

For many customers, the decision therefore comes down to whether they prefer the additional reflections of Deluxe or the darker, more defined appearance of Black Edition.

Are British Fires Deluxe Real Logs Actually Real Wood?

Yes. British Fires Deluxe Real Logs use real oak rather than moulded ceramic logs. The logs are individually prepared and hand-charred before being arranged with natural fuel-bed materials.

Because real timber is used, there can be natural differences between individual log sets. This variation is part of the appearance rather than every fuel bed being completely identical.

Which British Fires Edition Should I Choose?

There isn’t one edition that is automatically better for every installation.

As a simple guide:

  • Choose Signature if you want the classic New Forest ceramic log appearance.
  • Choose Deluxe if real logs and a more reflective, layered appearance are your priority.
  • Choose Black Edition if you want Deluxe Real Logs with a darker background and greater flame contrast.

If possible, we recommend seeing the different specifications working before making your final decision, as photographs do not always show the difference in reflections and flame depth accurately.

Which New Forest Models Are Available in the Different Editions?

The British Fires New Forest range includes models such as the 650, 870, 1200, 1600, 1900 and 2400, with Signature, Deluxe and Black Edition specifications available across the main collection.

You can compare the range in our British Fires New Forest electric fire collection.

Not Sure Which British Fires Size You Need?

Choosing the fuel bed is only part of the decision. Fire width, television size, room proportions and whether the fire will be installed one, two or three-sided can all affect which model is best suited to your project.

Our British Fires Buying Guide compares the different New Forest sizes alongside electric stoves, fireplace suites and media wall options.
