The RB73 Fennek 80 outdoor wood burning stove is a larger format modular fire designed by Dutch designer Roderick Vos, with wide front and rear glass panels that give a clear view through the combustion chamber. Its construction uses visibly expressed 3mm plate thickness, a refractory concrete firebed and a CorTen steel flue system, with practical details including an adjustable flue valve, integrated air slots and a draining flue connection.
The Fennek 80 follows the same modular design philosophy as the Fennek 50. The two models share the same side panels and legs, while the wider proportions of the Fennek 80 create a more substantial flame view through the broad front and rear glazing.
Above each glass panel, RB73 integrates air slots that feed air into the combustion chamber in front of the glass. This is intended to help keep the windows cleaner during use and preserve the view of the flames.
The door handle is integrated into the right-hand strip of the door rather than projecting separately from the front. A recess in the operating hook allows the door to be opened slightly and secured in that position, which is specifically intended for use when starting the fire.
The removable side panels hook into the fireplace and are pressed firmly down into position. They can later be released by pushing them upwards, allowing the panels to be removed if required.
Inside the firebox, the Fennek 80 uses a deep refractory concrete firing bottom. The flue is formed from CorTen steel pipes, with an adjustable valve in the lower pipe that allows some regulation of the flame picture.
The flue arrangement is designed to help prevent rainwater entering the fireplace. A 20cm stump projects from the top of the fire, with the flue pipe fitting over it to create a draining arrangement.
At ground level, the legs use large cap nuts with stainless steel bolts screwed into them. This keeps the fireplace clear of the terrace surface and is intended to prevent rust marks forming beneath it.
The top plate can reach temperatures of around 200°C, allowing it to be used for warming certain foods or drinks. A purpose-designed rain hood completes the flue, and an optional spark catcher can be retrofitted.

Expert Insight:
The Fennek 80 is particularly notable for the width of its front and rear glazing, which gives a strong through-view of the fire from opposite sides. The integrated air slots above the glass are an important functional detail, while the adjustable flue valve provides some control over the flame behaviour rather than leaving the fire completely fixed once lit.
Suitability:
The RB73 Fennek 80 suits larger terraces and garden seating areas where a broader outdoor fireplace and wider flame view are preferred. Its front and rear glazing makes it particularly relevant where the fire can be appreciated from both sides of the installation.
Installation Notes:
The Fennek 80 uses a 20cm draining flue stump with CorTen steel pipe fitted over it. The lower flue section incorporates an adjustable valve, while stainless steel bolts within the legs lift the fireplace clear of the terrace surface. The rain hood can also be fitted retrospectively with the optional spark catcher.
