The British Fires New Forest 1200 is a 1200mm-wide inset electric fire designed for media walls, false chimney breasts and bespoke fireplace features. Its landscape format provides a wide flame view while remaining more compact than the larger New Forest 1600, 1900 and 2400 models.
A major advantage of the New Forest 1200 is its installation flexibility. The same fire can be configured as a front-facing, two-sided corner or three-sided electric fire, giving you more freedom when designing the finished fireplace or media wall. It is also available in Signature, Deluxe and Black Edition specifications, with different fuel-bed and rear-glass options to choose from.
One, Two or Three-Sided Installation
The New Forest 1200 can be adapted to suit different fireplace designs. For a front-facing installation, both sides are concealed so the focus remains on the 1200mm landscape flame view. A two-sided corner installation leaves either the left or right side glass exposed, while a three-sided installation opens both sides for a more panoramic view of the fire.

Optional 30mm Finishing Trim
For front-facing installations, British Fires also offers an optional 30mm finishing trim. This provides a defined border around the appliance and can create a neater transition between the fire and surrounding finished wall.

Signature, Deluxe or Black Edition?
The New Forest 1200 is available in three specifications. The dimensions and core electric fire remain the same, but the logs, fuel-bed arrangement and rear-glass finish change between editions:

- Signature Edition: Signature ceramic logs with loose fuel-bed materials that can be arranged as Forest View, Slate View or Diamond Light. Mirrored rear glass is supplied as standard.
- Deluxe Edition: Upgrades the fire to Deluxe Real Logs with a choice of Camp Fire or Scattered layout and mirrored rear glass.
- Black Edition: Combines Deluxe Real Logs with dark rear glass, producing greater contrast behind the logs and flame effect.

If you are unsure which version is right for your project, our British Fires Signature vs Deluxe vs Black Edition guide explains the differences in more detail.
Signature Edition: Forest View, Slate View & Diamond Light
The Signature Edition provides the most flexibility when arranging the loose fuel-bed materials. Forest View places the ceramic Signature logs over wood chippings and husk for a more traditional woodland appearance.

Slate View combines pieces of slate with Diamond Light crystals to allow more illumination through the fuel bed. Alternatively, Diamond Light puts greater emphasis on the illuminated crystal effect for a brighter, more contemporary appearance.

Deluxe Real Logs: Camp Fire or Scattered
Choose the Deluxe or Black Edition and the New Forest 1200 is supplied with British Fires’ Deluxe Real Logs. These use real oak logs that are individually scorched and charred before being arranged and securely fixed into the fuel bed.
There are two layouts for the 1200. The Camp Fire arrangement builds the logs into a more concentrated, stacked formation, while the Scattered layout places them more loosely across the fuel bed for a less uniform appearance.

Standard or SCHOTT Anti-Reflective Glass?
Standard toughened glass is supplied with the New Forest 1200, with an optional SCHOTT anti-reflective glass upgrade available. The upgraded glass is designed to reduce reflections across the front and visible side glass, providing a clearer view of the fuel bed and flame effect.
It is particularly worth considering for brighter rooms, installations opposite windows and two- or three-sided configurations where more of the glass remains visible.

LED Flame Effect, Downlighting & Fuel-Bed Lighting
The New Forest 1200 uses LED lighting with a moving flame effect system to create the flickering flame pattern across the rear of the fire. Integrated downlighting and illuminated fuel-bed effects add further depth around the logs and fuel bed.
The fuel-bed lighting can be set to orange, pink or blue, allowing the appearance of the fire to be adjusted from warmer traditional tones to more contemporary colour settings.
The flame and lighting effects can be operated independently of the heater, so the New Forest 1200 can be enjoyed for its visual effect throughout the year.
Remote & Thermostatic Control
The supplied remote control lets you adjust the flame effect, fuel-bed lighting and heating functions from your seat. The thermostatic heater can be set between 17°C and 27°C, with the flame and lighting effects available independently of the heat.

1500W Heating with Air Curtain Technology®
The British Fires New Forest 1200 provides a 1500W heat output for supplementary room heating. Heating operates independently from the flame effect, so additional warmth can be used only when required.
The fire also incorporates British Fires’ patented Air Curtain Technology® (ACT). Cooler room air is drawn into the appliance, warmed internally and distributed back into the room through a controlled airflow across the front of the fire.

ACT® removes the need for bulky visible heater grilles and allows the front glass to sit flush with the face of the appliance. For a built-in fireplace or media wall, this helps retain a clean finish without interrupting the flame view.

Is the New Forest 1200 the Right Size?
At 1200mm wide, the New Forest 1200 is a useful choice for smaller to medium-sized media walls where you want a panoramic electric fire without it dominating the full width of the feature wall.
If you are positioning a TV above the fire, 50-inch and 55-inch TVs are useful sizes to compare with the New Forest 1200. The best proportions will depend on the actual width of the television and surrounding wall, so we recommend comparing physical dimensions rather than screen size alone. For larger TVs or wider media walls, it is worth comparing the 1200 with the New Forest 1600.
