Project Overview
Bonfire Fireplaces & Stoves were appointed to deliver the design, supply and installation of open gas fireplaces at The Bloomsbury Hotel.
The project required the integration of real flame open fires within a high end hospitality environment, ensuring both aesthetic impact and full compliance with London building regulations.
The Brief
- Install open fireplaces with gas fire trays
- Maintain the character of a historic Lutyens designed building
- Deliver a solution compliant with London regulations
- Create feature fireplaces suitable for public hospitality spaces
Design & Installation
The installation required a fully bespoke approach, including:
- Custom flue system design and installation
- Bespoke starter box and fan system
- Integration of open gas fire trays
- Fabrication of hot rolled steel and mirrored panels for the Coral Room
All elements were designed and manufactured to suit the building’s structure while maintaining a clean, refined finish in keeping with the hotel’s interior.
Technical Challenges
Working within a central London hotel required:
- Adherence to strict building and ventilation regulations

- Coordination with ongoing hotel operations

The Result
The completed fireplaces deliver a strong visual focal point within the hotel’s reception and Coral Room, combining traditional open fire aesthetics with modern gas performance.
The installations enhance the atmosphere of the space while providing a reliable, controllable heat source suitable for a commercial setting.
The Before
The original space provided a clear opportunity for transformation. The existing fireplace area lacked presence and did not reflect the overall design intent of the room, particularly within a high end hospitality setting.
There was no defined focal point, and the space required a solution that would introduce both visual impact and functional performance. The brief called for a fireplace installation that would enhance the atmosphere while integrating seamlessly with the surrounding interior.
This stage allowed us to assess the structural requirements and develop a bespoke approach, including the design of a custom flue system and fireplace configuration tailored to the property.
