The Challenge

Our client in Pangbourne had a desire to revamp their fireplace, turning it into the focal point of their living space. They also wanted to make it function and draw properly as it had been potentially adapted wrongly overtime.

With a plethora of fireplace surrounds and open fire baskets to choose from, they turned to us at Bonfire to bring their vision to life.

Our Solution

To kickstart the project, we engaged in close consultation with the client to understand their requirements thoroughly.

Armed with their preferences and chosen ideas, we delved into our extensive selection of fireplace designs, assisting them in finding the perfect fit for their home.

Once the ideal design was selected, our designers utilised cutting-edge CAD software to craft a bespoke fireplace tailored precisely to the client’s specifications.

This not only ensured a perfect match for their vision but also streamlined the production process, reducing lead times for a swift installation.

Addressing Challenges

During our initial assessment, we encountered a hurdle – the existing fire was not drawing properly.

To tackle this issue effectively, we conducted a comprehensive survey of the fireplace, meticulously measuring and assessing the available space.

Using the data gathered from our survey, our technical experts used our specialist air flow CAD software to calculate the most appropriate opening size for optimal functionality.

This meticulous approach allowed us to design a bespoke fireplace that not only met the client’s aesthetic preferences being symetrical but also resolved the technical challenges posed by the existing setup.

Hearth Raising

We raised the rear hearth by 170mm to accommodate for the reduced opening size, calculated in our findings to allow this fireplace to function properly.

Symmetry Throughout

As the rear hearth had to be altered, we had to play around with the design to make the slips sit symetrically throughout.

Furthermore, we had to ensure the joining points of the rear hearths and slips would meet at a flush snug point to avoid any potential for catching in the future.

Precautionary Measures

We took precautionary measures throughout with many revisions back and forth when designing the fireplace surround. The alteration made were to reinforce the backing of the slips, splitting hearths for expansion and increasing the hearth thicknesses to cater for the solid fuel basket.

Full Transparency

At Bonfire, we believe in complete transparency throughout the entire process. We’re committed to guiding our clientele not only during the initial stages but also throughout the lifespan of our products.

It’s important to note that due to the porous nature of the limestone material and white colouring alongside a solid fuel fire basket, there is a possibility of discolouration over time. – The client was made aware of this and was happy to accept.
