Wood burning stoves and multi fuel stoves in London are very common and are growing in popularity everyday with the rise in fuel bills. London has a restriction of what fuels can be burnt to reduce pollution within the crowded city.
First introduced in the 1950s to tackle the problem of smog the DEFRA Approved stov system allows only log burners and multi fuel stoves to be burnt within the city if they conform to these DEFRA regulations.
A £1,000 fine can be issued if you’re not using a DEFRA approved wood burning stove in smoke controlled areas in London.
If you’re located in a smoke controlled zone such as London, this appliance will have to be removed and replaced with a DEFRA approved stove by a professional stove installer, otherwise you will incur fines starting at £1,000.
